Baptists were the first Protestants to establish a congregation in St. Louis County. Fee Fee Baptist Church was formed in 1807. Baptist preachers generally worked on a circuit, traveling from one area to another, often holding services in the homes of members. The churches’ membership lists reflect their practice of baptizing at the time the individual chooses to join the church, hence generating membership, rather than baptism, records.
