Ask Louie is a service in which volunteers offer advice about where to locate genealogical records for St. Louis City or St. Louis County. As an all-volunteer, not-for-profit organization, StLGS relies on volunteers to provide this service.

Guidelines for Using Ask Louie

  • Only one question will be answered at a time.
  • Volunteers will not do research to answer questions.
  • If you need extensive research, you will be referred to the list of researchers for hire on this website.
  • There is no charge for this service, but donations are appreciated.
  • Questions will be added to a queue and answered in the order received.

What to Include in Your Request

Each Ask Louie request needs to include the following information:

  • Your full name
  • Your email address and/or mailing address
  • A specific question about St. Louis research. If known, please include:
    1. The name of the person or couple, if married
    2. A date with day, month and year. Approximate dates may yield fewer results.
    3. The location where the event took place, such as St. Boniface Church, Bellefontaine Cemetery or Florissant
    4. The specific type of record requested, such as a cemetery or church record
    5. The specific resources you have already researched

Responses will be sent electronically via email.
