The St. Louis Genealogical Society is staffed entirely by volunteers, and we welcome individuals with all levels of experience and availability, whether you can help regularly or just a few hours each month.
Volunteering with StLGS is a great way to connect with others who share an interest in genealogy, local history, and family research. Remote volunteer opportunities are also available. Many volunteers assist from home by indexing records, entering data into Excel spreadsheets, or proofreading entries for accuracy.
Current Volunteer Opportunities
- Computer Data Entry—Entering data for current research projects (at the society office or at home with a computer and internet access)
- Proofreading—Verifying data entry for various projects (at the society office or at home)
- Scanning—Scanning historical donated materials for various society projects
- Publication Production—Printing our Quarterly journal, flyers, and syllabus materials
- Society Publications—Writing book reviews and articles for our publications; assisting with graphics and layout for our Quarterly
- Foreign Language(s) Translation—Translating genealogical records into English
- Publicity/Advertising—Helping to create press releases, promote events, and manage social media
- Genealogical Research—Offering guidance and assistance to guests who wish to research at the office; assisting with requests for look-ups of individual items
- Technology Support—Assisting with software, network support, and website development
