From Researching to Writing: Preserving Our Family Stories

September 26 @ 9:00 am - 3:00 pm

All-Day Hands-On Workshop, Fall 2026

Every family has stories to tell; it’s what makes us unique and why it’s so important to ensure our own history is saved.

This workshop will help you begin to capture your family’s stories. We’ll look at how to . . .

  • Start with Yourself: Autobiographical Writing
  • Organize Your Writing Using MS Word
  • Handle Family Mythology
  • Gather ideas for Many Creative Writing Projects

How it works:
The day will include several short lectures and time to practice. You’ll have the chance to learn by observing and by doing. You can work via pen and paper or on the computer, whichever way is comfortable for you. Bring your own laptop or use our office computers (Windows).

Bonus Class for Participants Only

Your registration includes an additional class on Saturday, 3 October, from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. This time will be set aside for sharing, writing and editing, and receiving support from the group.

What to bring:

  • A laptop or use one of our society computers (no tablets, please)
  • Relevant information on anyone you’d like to write about

Space is limited—register now to reserve your seat! This workshop will be in-person only.
