   Lineage Societies;

   Joining a lineage society is an excellent way to honor family heritage, preserve genealogical research on your ancestors, and sometimes an interesting way to meet cousins! The process of documenting your lineage and completing a lineage society application can be challenging. We will share examples of acceptable documents that can be used as proof and provide resources for finding them.

2. Join a Genealogical Society (or Two!)

   Become a member of StLGS

   Consider joining a genealogical society in a town where your ancestors lived.

   • Contact the town’s Historical Society for information of local records or historical photos
   • Join the town’s genealogical society to support their efforts to promote their history and to preserve their records

   Access to sources on the website, “Ask Louie,” monthly informational meetings, classes, Family History Conference, quarterly journal, the reference room, surname files, blog & more, volunteer & more

3. Get Out of Your House!

   Search other repositories, such as

   The Clark branch of theSt Louis County Library

   The St Louis Public Library

   The Missouri History Library on Skinker

   The Mercantile Library @ UMSL

   Plan a trip to visit a town or country where your ancestors lived.

   Visit a church or synagogue where your ancestor attended.

   Visit the town cemetery

   Walk the streets and visit the shops

   Find an address and see the street where they lived.
